  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Two typical cases of diabetic tabes were reported.

The first case was a 50-year-old Japanese and the second was a 45-year-old Korean. Value of blood-sugar by empty stomach and urine sugar at our first examination were in the first case 488mg/dl and 62.7g/day, while in the second 223.5mg/dl and 3.4g/day.

Among many characteristic signs of diabe-tic pseudotabes, especially noteworthy were the facts, that in two cases the proprioce-ptive sensation is far more severely affected than the exteroceptive and there was a sharp difference in grade. So ataxia was very re-markable. In both cases muscle atrophy of lower extremities, especially that of M. ti-bialis anterior of the first case, was notable.

In the first case Mendel-Bechterew and Rossolimo reflexes were positive and para-dox thermal sensation was observed. In the second case mal perforant de pied which was resistent to the cure appeared during the hospitalisation.
