  • Look Inside

It has been well known that the cerebellopontine angle tumor usually shows the acoustic symptoms in the early stage and also the hemihypesthesia on the contralateral side due to compres ion of the bulbar sensory tract in the later stage.

We have recently observed three unusual cases of cerebellopontine angle tumor which have shown remarkable alternating hemihype thesia in the early stage. In our cases, the symptoms occurred in the following order:

(1) trigeminal and abducens nerve symptoms,

(2) hemihypesthesia on the contralateral side,

(3) staggering gait and dysarthria (4) headache, vomitting and symptoms of adjacent cranial nerve in cerebellopontine angle.

Their diagnoses have been determined from the neurological viewpoint as trigeminal root neurinoma in two cases and as acou tic neurinoma with h ge cyst in another case.

It was presumed that the early completion of alternating hemihypesthesia would probably be due to the compression of the pontme sensory tract in the trigeminal neurinoma cases and also due to the extraordinary distorsion of the brain stem by ahuge cyst in the acoustic neurinoma case.
