We would want to report on 5 cases of brain abscesses due to external wounds which we have experienced since the end of the war at the Tokyo. First National Hospital.

1. The attack occurred 2years and 2months, 2years and one month, one year and 5months, one year and 4 months, one year and one month after the head inzury. Two of them occurred one year after the complete healing of the wounds.

2. The abscess occurred in the fourhead in 2 cases, in the parietal region in one case, and in the temporal region in two cases.

3. The size of abscess varied from the size of pea to the size of sparrow's egg, in which 4 cases were caused by staphylococcus and one by baci-llus proteus vulgaris

4. The symptoms were headache, tender to percussi-on (at the site of abscess), nausea, disturbance of consicousness (abulia or excitement), increasead intracranial pressure and local defect symptoms But fever was experienced in only two cases, leucocytosis in only 13 cases.

On diagnosis of brainabscess, the condition of the wound (closed fisturla or decrease of secretion), must be noticed.

5. The treatment carried out was opening wounds and drainage of the abscess as early as the diag-nosis was settled.

6. Concerning the prognosis, 2 cases are recovered in 27, 50 days respectively and other 3 cases died due to meningitis and pneumenia in 27 days, 60 days, one year and two months respectively af-ter the operation.
