  • Look Inside

We compared symptoms and troublesome behavior in 11 demented inpatients who had been admitted at an age of over 90 (the demented nonagenarian group) and 14 with Alzheimer's disease with late onset (the SDAT group). The GBS (Gottfries, Brane and Steen's) and DBD (Dementia Behavior Disturbance) scales were applied for evaluation of the symptoms and the troublesome behavior.

Disturbances of orientation and memory were significantly more severe in the SDAT group, but reduced motivation, confusion and anxiety were more severe in the demented nonagenarian group. The present results suggest that the clinical features in the demented of the nonagenarian group might to be qualitatively different from those in the SDAT group.
