[Background] Restriction on driving vehicles when on psychotropic drugs is a major factor affecting a patient's daily life. Since the majority of psychotropics come with strict driving restrictions, an ethical dilemma arises in a situation where a patient needs medication, but also needs to drive.

[Materials] A method was developed for providing drug information (DI) through an original poster that (1) explains that, in Japan, most package inserts of psychotropic drugs provide strict instructions on driving restrictions;(2) lists some psychotropic drugs free from this driving restriction;and (3) requests readers to inform their physicians in the early stage of therapy if they do not wish to take such drugs because of the driving restriction.

[Discussion] The poster is expected to complement the physician's accountability towards and advocating role for patients through providing precise DIs. The poster has the potential of reducing the physician's ethical dilemma concerning driving restrictions.
