  • Look Inside

A young woman, suffering from repeated atypical manic-depressive-like psychotic phases for several years, was presented. She showed the photoconvulsive and/or photo-myoclonic responses everytime on the EEG and generalized convulsions occasionally clinically by the flicker light in every manic or depressive phase. However, no photo-sensitive responses were observed in the remission periods. The background activity of her EEG was composed of 8-9-10c/s irregular alpha activity interspers with sporadic 6-7c/s theta waves in both bipolar psychotic phases, however almost 9-10c/s rhythmical alpha activity in the remission periods. The spontaneous irregular spike & wave complex was occasionally observed on the EEG in both bipolar psychotic phases, but never in the remission phases.
