We conducted outreach to the medical examiner's office for a four-month period, and through the office, made contact with the survivors of suicide victims when the post-mortem certificates were issued. Seventeen survivors agreed to participate in two surveys. We sent them a questionnaire by post, two and eight months after the initial contact was made. In the second survey, 11.8% of the participants scored K6>12, and 58.8% scored IES-R>24. When comparing the scores of both surveys, K6 decreased statistically significantly, while IES-R did not. It seems that the experience of a next-of kin's suicide could be traumatic for some survivors, and its psychological influence remains for a longer period. Many of the survivors who scored high in the scales sought professional help voluntarily, but there also existed those who did not.
