Summary

We examined the Rorschach test for the Comprehensive System in 24 atopic dermatitis (AD) patients, who were divided into three groups:1) a psychosomatic disorder group (12 cases), 2) a psychosis group (7 cases), and 3) a non-psychosomatic disorder group (5 cases)

. Results of this study show that the psychosomatic disorder group has the features of abundant available psychological resources (high number of EA), a high amount of stress (high number of m), and strong mental rigidity (high number of Dd).

Various ways of response to stress are found in the psychosomatic disorder group i.e. somatization (FM), tendency towards fugue from reality (Ma<Mp), and difficulty in controlling emotion. Even though good human relationships are seen (high number of COP), there is a tendency towards isolation (Isolate/R), deprivation (T), anger (S), and guilt (V).

These data suggest useful interventions for the psychosomatic disorder group such as identifying the factors of stress and teaching methods to reduce the stress.
