The disease entity of “Sick-house syndrome” has received a certain amount of attention in Japan, although little investigation has been made from a psychiatric viewpoint. Asked by dermatologists, for psychiatric intervention, we investigated a patient with atopic dermatitis, who claimed that he could not go home, because he suffered from “Sick-house syndrome”. As there was a close relationship between his dermal and mental states, the collaboration of dermatologists with psychiatrists was of great significance for his treatment. The important points in the psychiatric treatment we gave him were that we suspended the diagnosis of “Sick-house syndrome”, and attempted supportive and insight-oriented therapy according to his dermal state.
