To assess the biventricular function in patient with right ventricular infarction, gated blood pool scintigraphy was performed in 10 normal cases and 76 cases of myocardial infarction. Ten cases of right ventricular infarction were studied, com-pared with 10 normal cases, 39 cases of antero-septal myocardial infarction, and 29 cases of infero-posterior myocardial infarction, using ejection frac-tion (EF) and Fourier analysis of biventricular gated blood pool imaging. In all 10 cases of right ventricular infarction, delayed phase area was found at inferior and/or septal region of right ventricle (RV), and RVEF was depressed (32.8±10.6%, mean±SD) and RVSD was increased (34.2± 12.6) . In 29 cases of inferoposterior myocardial infarction, RVEF and LVEF were slightly depres-sed (41.4±7.1%, 54.5±10.3%) , and, RVSD and LVSD were slightly increased (23.4±20.8± 6.8). In five cases of inferoposterior myocardial infarction, showed the regional phase delay of right ventricular inferior segment. In 39 cases of antero-septal myocardial infarction, no right ventricular phase delay was observed and LVEF was markedly depressed (46.5±11.1%) and LVSD increased (31.7±14.0).

It was concluded that, in right ventricular myo-cardial infarction, right ventricular function was reduced and asynchronism of right ventricle was found by gated blood pool scintigraphy. Therefore, this method was useful on non-invasive diagnosis of right ventricular infarction.
