Adult mongrel dogs, who were ventilated with 100% of oxygen by piston respirator, were divided into 2 groups.

In one group, they were hemodiluted with 5% dextran-40 and in the other with 6% dextran-200 until their hematocrit value were reduced to 40% of control. Each group was also divided into 2 groups, in one of which hemodilution was performed under 1 ATA and in the other under 3 ATA.
