New broncho-alveolography was designed to investigate the structural changes of the peripheral bronchus and alveolus in the cases with chronic obstructive lung diseases. The method is essentially consisting of infusing the contrast material of low viscosity (60 % urographin) into the lungs through Metras' tracheo-bronchial catheter so that the small bronchus and alveoli to which the catheter is pre-wedged are completely filled with co-ntrast material. We would like to call this bronchography as liquid-filled alveolography (LFA).

LFA was applied to the cases with chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, congenital alveolar cysts and pulmonary tuberculosis with cavity. LFA revealed the peripheral bro-ncho-alveolar structures like alveolar cysts, terminal endings of the bronchus with severe saccular bronchiectasis and tuberculous cavity which could not be visualized by routine bro-nchograph. Because of the low resolution of X-ray apparatus, each alveolus of the normal size could not be visualized. However, it was suggested that by our LFA the alveolus was completely filled with contrast material and that it would be possible to visualize the alv-eolus with the appearance of the high resolut-ion roentogenography.
