Because the H. pylori(Helicobacter pylori)infection rate is decreasing, it is expected that the relative number of H. pylori-naïve gastric cancer cases will increase. In this study, we examined clinical characteristics of H. pylori-naïve gastric cancer cases experienced in our institution between January 2010 and May 2016. The H. pylori-naïve gastric cancer proportion was low, at 1.26%. Our findings indicate that H. pylori-naïve gastric cancers were more frequent in young patients, were generally in upper-third locations, and of undifferentiated histological type. In addition, among all differentiated lesions, the proportion showing a gastric mucin phenotype was larger in H. pylori-naïve gastric cancers than in H. pylori-associated gastric cancers.
