Abnormal esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD)findings are frequently observed in patients with achalasia ; however, it is difficult to diagnose achalasia subtypes using EGD. Moreover, abnormal EGD findings are rarely observed in patients with esophageal motility disorders except achalasia. Although esophagography is useful for detecting esophageal motility disorders, esophageal manometry, particularly high-resolution manometry, is necessary for diagnosing esophageal motility disorders. Therefore, these disorders must be diagnosed by evaluating EGD, esophagography, and esophageal manometry findings.
