Esophageal motility abnormalities are often seen in patients with EoE(eosinophilic esophagitis). Patients with EoE may have various types of esophageal motility abnormalities. For example, esophageal manometry showed esophageal achalasia in a patient with EoE, which improved after corticosteroid administration. Recently, an endoluminal functional lumen imaging probe(Endoflip®), which can assess esophageal distensibility, has been developed. A study using Endoflip® showed a decrease in esophageal distensibility in patients with EoE. In addition, synchronous movement of esophageal inner and outer muscles is impaired in patients with EoE, which was revealed using a combination of ultrasonography and esophageal manometry. Esophageal motility abnormalities may be improved by treatments for EoE.
