ESD(endoscopic submucosal dissection)for colorectal tumors is technically more difficult and requires considerable experience compared with EMR(endoscopic mucosal resection). Also, procedure time for ESD is considerably longer than for EMR. Hybrid ESD is defined as the use of a snare during the final stage of the ESD procedure. The indication for ESD is present in the tumors up to 40mm in size, which are difficult to resect en bloc using a snare. In clinical practice, the choice of whether to use a snare as well as the timing of the snaring depend on the situation during the procedure and the condition of the lesion. The safety and efficacy of hybrid ESD was verified, because there were no statistical differences in the incidence of local recurrence and perforation between the hybrid ESD group and other treatment groups.
