Surgical treatment of the wide spreading polyposis of the digestive tract is discussed here.

 1. Polyposis in Peutz-Jeghers syndrome is hamartomatous and is accepted to have no malignant potential. Treatment should be directed toward the management of the factors causing invagination, ileus, prolapsus or bleeding of the intestine. Secondly, for the prevention of them, extirpation of other polyps or segmental colectomy may become necessary. An illustrative case is reported.

 2. Familial polyposis of the colon presents no problem in principle for its surgical removal. Permanent ileostomy is believed to offer not so serious disadvantage to the patient, especially to the long-term survivors, and survival rate is high.

For the other polyposis segmental resection of the intestine or polypectomy or both is the surgical treatment of choice regarding adenoma-cancer problem. The author's two cases are described.
