A 47 year-old male patient was admitted to Keio University Hospital in 1982 for the treatment of gastric cancer which had already been detected at another hospital. X-ray examination of the stomach was done on January 7, 1982. At fluoroscopy barium-filled stomach and double contrast study revealed no abnormal findings, but by compression study with magnified intensifier (about 1.5×) an irregular depression was easily found at the greater curvature of the proximal antrum (Fig. 6a~d), and the diagnosis of early gastric cancer, type Ⅱc, was made.
Endoscopic examination done on January 12, 1982 (Fig. 7a, b) revealed a shallow, irregular depression of the mucosal membrane at the greater curvature of the proximal antrum. Malignancy was confirmed by biopsy.
