A study was made on the range of the definition for Type Ⅱb early gastric cancer through considering the basic ideas of its classification and understanding of figures. As a conclusion, it was found that in classifying it according to classification rules for the early gastric cancer, it is necessary to establish the width of the neighboring area in order to avoid differing types of the same kind of cancer resulting from varying observation methods and size of the cancer. It does not matter how one establishes the width in respect with the Size of the cancer. One should determine the width suitable to the objective he is pursuing when encountering instances such as the necessity for a macroscopic classification of early cancer or when the internal area involves double the size of the maximum diameter of the cancer.

Mloreover, within the neighboring area covering the cancer, even though some differences in depression and elevation between the surface of the cancer and the neighboring normal mucosa exist, it is practical to classify it as type Ⅱb early gastric cancer if the conditions at the surface are similar. If this is not accepted, considering that many of the type Ⅱb cancers are microcarcinomas, diagnosis using the x-ray and endoscopy will become almost impossible. This makes the type Ⅱb cancer pathohistological.
