  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Gastric MALT lymphoma, which was unresponsive to H. pylori eradication, occupied 10~20% of the cases, including H. pylori-positive and -negative ones. However, they shared such features as follows: polypoid gross appearance or cobblestone appearance, frequent multiple lesions, a relatively monotonous proliferation of centrocyte-like cells with reactive follicles, few other reactive components, infrequent lymphoepithelial lesions, and dense infiltration of the submucosa.

The t(11;18)(q21;q21) translocation is the most frequent chromosome aberration in extranodal MALT lymphoma, resulting in API2-MALT1 chimeric products. API2-MALT1 chimeric transcripts were detected in most of the cases examined. Based on these observations,API2-MALT1 chimeric transcripts may be a good marker to predict the relevance of antibiotic treatment for gastric MALT lymphoma.
