  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A 37-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis was admitted to Hakodate Central Hospital because of melena. Barium enema and colonoscopic examinations revealed two rounded ulcers on the ileo-cecal valve. Histopathological findings of biopsy specimens obtained from the lesions revealed non-specific inflammation without vasculitis. The lesions were localized on the ileo-cecal valve, only. Other areas of the gastrointestinal tract revealed no findings. The ulcers improved by prescription of steroid. It is of interest, concerning the pathogenesis of non-specific ulcers on the ileo-cecal valve, that the ulcers were complicated with rheumatoid arthritis, and that they improved by prescription of steroid.
