Round pits are observed in the fundic gland mucosa of H. pylori-negative normal stomach by magnifying endoscopy. The structure of surface epithelium changes during inflammation by H. pylori and sulci is observed in the atrophic mucosa by magnifying endoscopy. Both round pits and sulci correspond to crypts. After successful eradication, pin-hole pits can be observed in the fundic gland mucosa. The mucosa which reproduces in the fundic gland, even if it was atrophic mucosa without fundic gland before, shows round pits. As in these descriptions, surface epithelium of the stomach changes its structure because of inflammation and tends to return to the structure of normal mucosa by eradication of H. pylori.
