Balloon assisted endoscopy enabled endoscopic diagnoses and treatment for small intestinal bleeding. Since balloon assisted endoscopy has an accessory channel and provides good maneuverability in the distal small intestine, it is possible to perform endoscopic treatment such as cauterization, hemo-clip, injection, polypectomy and EMR. Vascular lesions, ulcerative lesions, neoplastic lesions, varices and diverticulum can be bleeding sources and appropriate endoscopic hemostasis methods should be selected according to lesion types. Timely examinations are necessary to achieve endoscopic treatment and this requires that balloon assisted endoscopy should be used more widely.
