要旨　白色光を用いた画像処理により，内視鏡医が注目する波長の内視鏡画像を作製する分光内視鏡であるFICE（flexible spectral imaging color enhancement）は，optical biopsyを行うことを可能とするimage-enhanced endoscopy（IEE）の1つとして挙げられる．内視鏡医は任意の条件設定を行うことにより診断に有用な内視鏡画像を得ることが可能であり，得られた画像は遠景・中間景でも通常観察とほぼ同等の明るさを有し，病変の視認性の向上が期待される．また，拡大観察においては微小血管や粘膜微細模様の明瞭化が可能である．FICE画像は通常画像に比べて，早期胃癌と胃炎の鑑別診断や早期胃癌の境界診断などに対し，より高い精度で簡便かつ非侵襲的に行える方法として期待される．

　Flexible spectral imaging color enhancement（FICE）is one mode of image-enhanced endoscopy（IEE）which can be used to gain insight into the pathology of a lesion by using spectral estimation technology. The FICE setting can be customized by the endoscopist and the images obtained have clear distant view. The FICE system may more easily detect early gastric cancer and can clearly visualize both the microvascular architecture and the micro surface structure than does white-light endoscopic observation. The FICE system is non-invasive and makes it possible to diagnose early gastric cancer and determine margins.
