Abstract Purpose:Retinal detachment with ciliary body rupture is rare in patients without a history of atopic dermatitis or trauma. Here, we report the case of a child who underwent cataract surgery.

Case:A 15-year-old boy presented with retinal detachment two years after undergoing cataract surgery at 13 years of age. The initial surgery involved intraocular lens implantation, and no complications were reported. At follow-up, the left eye showed retinal detachment affecting the macula(vision 0.2). Vitrectomy revealed a ciliary body break(2-4 o'clock)without retinal breaks. Silicone oil was used to reattach the retina and removed six months later.

Results:Ciliary body vulnerability may be linked to previous cataract surgery and subsequent retinal detachment.

Conclusion:In young patients with retinal detachment after cataract surgery, ciliary body breaks should be considered even in the absence of retinal breaks.
