Abstract Objective:It has been reported that the mean blur rate(MBR)in areas of retinal atrophy by laser speckle flowgraphy(LSFG)is decreased in patients with geographic choroiditis in the atrophic phase. This study reports a case of choroidal neovascularization(CNV)during the atrophic phase of geographic choroiditis.

Case report:A 42-year-old man visited the doctor because he noticed left metamorphopsia in November 20XX. His corrected visual acuity was 1.5 in the right eye and 0.9 in the left eye, and yellowish-white lesions were observed on the auricular side of the optic nerve disc in both eyes. Based on fundus findings and angiography, bilateral choroiditis was diagnosed. One month later, the corrected visual acuity of the left eye improved to 1.2, but the patient stopped going to the hospital.

Seven years later, the lesions in both eyes were atrophic, and the lesions containing CNV had higher MBR values than other lesions.

Results:In this case, the MBR values of the atrophic area ware low as previously reported, and the MBR values of the CNV area ware higher than those of the surrounding atrophic area. These results suggest that although geographic choroiditis causes choroidal circulatory disorders, choroidal blood flow is increased in the CNV area.

Conclusion:LSFG may be useful in scrutinizing CNV complications.
