医療用放射性核種（以下，医療用RI）には，原子炉で製造するもの，加速器で製造するもの，ジェネレータからミルキングにより得るものなどがあるが，このうち，原子炉で製造する医療用RI［具体的には，モリブデン-99（⁹⁹Mo），ヨウ素-131（¹³¹I），ルテチウム-177（¹⁷⁷Lu）など］の調達は海外に依存し続けている。これは，我が国の原子炉の運用に関する規制のために，これらの医療用RIの製造や精製が海外でしか行えないためである。

Since many radiopharmaceuticals are made from overseas radioisotopes（RIs）in Japan, we experienced many troubles in their supply. Recently, the projects about the domestic production of medical RIs are carrying out under the leadership of the government, but there are many issues concerning these projects such as the operation of nuclear reactors and accelerators, the transportation of large amounts of RIs, and public financial support.
