　応用科学である医療技術の進歩には，常に先行して基盤となる科学技術のブレークスルーがみられる．また，医療技術は，①基礎段階，②実験段階，③普及段階の3つの段階を推移して臨床応用され，また，それぞれ①倫理性，②経済性，③実効性の3つの観点から評価されるべきである．今回，特に聴覚分野での新しいテクノロジーの導入である①難聴遺伝子診断，②新生児聴覚スクリーニングとその後の他覚的聴力検査，③画像検査の3つの診断技術について，これらの視点から整理し，今後必要とされる新しいテクノロジーについて考える．

　Advancement of medical technology has generally been preceded by an underlying scientific breakthrough.　All medical technologies develop into clinical procedures through several steps, including : ①the basic stage, ②the experimental stage and ③the popularization stage.　The technologies can be evaluated from three viewpoints : ①morality, ②economic efficiency, and ③workability.　With reference to these three viewpoints, this paper discusses three recent technologies that are relevant to audiology, namely, ①genetic diagnosis for hearing impairment, ②newborn hearing impairment and hearing evaluation for infants, and ③imaging technologies.
