重症熱傷は急性期に死亡率が高いが，それを乗り越えても感染症，そして合併症との戦いになる。

　合併症には広く認知されているものから，あまり認知されていないものまで存在し，本邦の熱傷診療ガイドラインにおいても深く言及されていないものも多い。

　色素沈着や瘢痕拘縮といった整容面だけでなく，日常生活動作（ADL）の低下につながるものや致死的なものも存在する。そして，そのほとんどが報告例も多くなく，治療面でも確固としたものがないものも存在する。

　本稿ではそのなかから，いくつかを取り上げ，最新の知見とともに紹介する。

Patients with severe burns have a high mortality rate in the acute stage, but when they go beyond that, they battle infections and complications. Complications range from those that are widely recognized to those that are not so well recognized, and many are not even thoroughly discussed in the Japanese burn guidelines. There are not only cosmetic aspects such as pigmentation and scar contractures, but also those that lead to decreased ability to perform activities of daily living and those that are fatal. Most of these complications are associated with few reported cases, and some have no definitive treatment. This section discusses up some of these complications and introduces them along with the latest findings.
