新型コロナウイルス感染症（COVID-19）のパンデミックにより，今まで当たり前のように提供できていたケアができないという未曾有の事態が続いている。個人防護具（PPE）を装着しながらのケア，電話やインターネットを活用したコミュニケーション，オンライン面会の工夫や，臨死期および死後の対応など課題は多い。聖マリアンナ医科大学は，クルーズ船内で発生したCOVID-19患者の受け入れを皮切りに，現在も継続して重症患者を中心に対応している。未知の感染症に対し，治療はもちろん，患者・家族に対するケアについて，現在も病院一丸となって取り組んでいる。

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are in the middle of unprecedented difficulties which preclude providing the level of care given before the pandemic. We are facing many difficulties including caring for patients while wearing PPE, tele-medicine communication using the telephone and internet, internet-visits, and providing care for those in the last stages of life and after their death. Starting from the cruise ship cluster, out faculty admitted patients with COVID-19 focusing on those with critical illness. We, together as one, are fighting against this unexperienced infection and working not only on treatment but also the care of patients and their family members.
