骨の感染症は発熱，局所の発赤，腫脹などの典型的な症状を呈すが，稀な疾患であるため，見逃されたり不適切に治療される例が少なくない．幼小児発生例では，成長に伴い骨や関節変形の原因となる．また，近年は抗菌薬に対する多剤耐性菌の出現や医療の進歩に伴う免疫不全宿主の増加などにより，難治性感染症が増加している．診断の基本は，臨床症状と赤沈値やCRP値の上昇などの炎症所見であるが，不適切な初期治療により炎症所見が軽度であると診断に難渋する．また，単純X線像では，ごく初期には骨変化を示さないので注意が必要である．

Infectious diseases of musculo-skeletal tissues are rare, and typical cases show high fever, swelling, warmness and redness of the involved parts.　Diagnosis is made from the increase of infectious markers in blood samples.　Plain radiographic changes of bone and joints are occasionally not clear in the initial stages of infection.　Recently, diagnosis and treatment of the infection have become difficult because of the increase of multidrug-resistant bacterium and immuno-compromised hosts.　Delay and awkwardness of initial treatment for child infection sometimes gives rise to mal-alignment and deformity of legs with growth.
