　I．はじめに

　悪性腫瘍に対する治療法は，大きくわけて手術療法・放射線療法・化学療法・免疫療法にわけられる。耳鼻咽喉科領域の癌―頭頸部悪性腫瘍―においても同じことがいえるが，その中で主たるものは外科的療法と放射線療法である。

　このうち放射線療法においては，当然のことながら目標とする部位以外の周りの組織，臓器にも多少とも放射線の影響をおよぼすと考えられる。今回われわれは，治療および再発予防などの日的で頸部への外照射を行なつた喉頭癌患者らにおいて，その隣接臓器である甲状腺に対し，主にその機能への影響を調べたので若干の考察を加えて報告する。

　In patients with tumors of the head and neck, TSH, T₄I, triosorb test and blood cholesterol were studied in 19 patients treated with radiotherapy to their necks and in 16 treated without radiotherapy, to elucidate the effect of radiation of the neck on the thyroid gland.

　One patient received radiotherapy showed remarkable hypothyroidism, and the other showed an increased TSH with normal T₄I which were suggestive of the early stage of hypothyroidism. In general there was a tendency of a decrease in thyroid function represented by an increase in TSH, decrease in T₄I and triosorb test in patients received radiotherapy in their cervical regions.
