　頸部に原因を有する迷路性障害が存在することは既に周知の事実である。1925年Barréは後頸部交感神経症候群（Le syndrôme sympathiquecervical postérieur）（以下S. C. P. 症候群と略記）の名のもとに，神経科的，耳科的，眼科的な色々な障害を一症候群としてまとめ，その共通の原因として頸柱の変化を挙げ，両者を結ぶものとして交感神経，殊に椎骨神経の影響を指摘した。Barré-Liéou症候群は，後頭痛，視力障害，上肢や顔面の知覚異常や血管運動神経障害，迷路性障害すなわちメマイ，耳鳴，時に耳痛からなつている。ただしこのメマイは単なる不安定感にすぎぬ仮性眩暈のこともあれば，頭を動かしたとき生ずる回転性眩暈のこともある。

　我々がこの蝸牛前庭障害を考究しようとするのは，臨床と治療という二つの目的からである。

　Symptoms such as headache, vertigo and ocular disturbances that are based on cervical arthrosis are known, in general, as Barre's syndrome or posterior cervical sympathetic syndrome. The author described in detail clinical picture of this disease particularly, the aspect of cochlear-vestibular disturbances and believes its cause chiefly irritation of the sympathetic nervous system through vertebral plexus which may be further influneced by psychological conditions and make-up of an individual. For treatment of vertigo paraneural infiltration of vertebral nerve with novocain solution, besides that of general medical, was used with quite a marked effect.
