　現在の段階では脳・神経の話に直接関係していないかもしれないが，分子レベルでの遺伝現象の解析の現況について述べるようにとのご依頼なので，表記の問題についての最近のトピックスを述べたいと思うが，単なる総説を試みるよりはわれわれ自身の研究の"なま"の話を織り込んでこれと関連のある部分について述べたいと思う。

Abstract

Recent topics on the research on the fine structure of gene and the mechanism of gene expression were explained, referring mainly the works carried out in the author's laboratory.

Viral genome is a suitable material for its small size and its homogeneous preparation. Rat polyoma virus DNA is observed as a small closed ring in an electronmicroscope. The replication of this DNA starts from the definite position and proceeds to both the direction. The region around the replication origin was isolated as a small piece by the use of restriction enzymes.
