I．はじめに

　中心後回が体性感覚において重要な役割を果たしていることがわかってから，まだ数十年しかたっていない。今世紀の初頭，頭頂葉の中で中心後回が感覚障害を引き起こすとの報告がなされた（van Valkenburg,1914；Head,1927など）。しかしその後，Evansらは頭頂葉の中で中心後回より後部の病変によって感覚障害は長く続くと主張した（Evans,1935）。しかしこの問題は，中心後回こそが感覚障害を引き起こす一番重要なところであるということで決着している。たとえばCorkinは，てんかんの治療のために大脳皮質の一部を切除した多数例を対象に感覚障害の有無を検査し，頭頂葉の中で中心後回の病変が最も長く続く，また重篤な感覚障害を引き起こすと結論した（Corkin,1970）。

　しかしながら，体性感覚野すなわち中心後回の病変により引き起こされる感覚障害の性質については，まだ不明な点が多い。明らかになっていない点につき，以下概説する。

It is a widely held view that the postcentral gyrus damage is followed by disturbances of sensation. The reports hitherto, however, have not provided conclusive evidence with respect to the nature of the sensory disturbances. Moreover, it was noticed lesions of the postcentral gyrus led to clumsy and inappropriate movements, but the extent and location of the critical areas involved is still far from clear. The present author has described the sensorimotor deficits after the postcentral gyrus damage and analyzed the clinico-pathological correlations based upon the experienced cases.
