McDonald診断基準は多発性硬化症の診断基準であり，従来は異なる症状による臨床的発作が時間をおいて2回以上必要だったものを，MRIを用いて空間的・時間的多発性を証明することを可能にした。なお，この診断基準はclinically isolated syndrome患者に適用されるものであり，他疾患を鑑別するものではない。その適用について概説する。

Abstract

The McDonald diagnostic criteria for multiple sclerosis include clinical, radiological, and laboratory feature last revised in 2017. The aim of the most recent revision was to improve sensitivity of the McDonald diagnostic criteria for a faster diagnosis, without sacrificing specificity. with the revised criteria, the time between onset and diagnosis reduced from approximately half a year to 2〜3 months. The revised criteria should be used for patients with clinically isolated syndrome and should not be used to differentiate from other diseases. This review gives an overview of the 2017 McDonald criteria and explains how to use them.
