　はじめに

　Epstein-Barr virus（EBV）は，腫瘍原性をもつヒトヘルペス属ウイルスであり，Burkittリンパ腫を初めとする様々な腫瘍の発生に関与しているとされている。上咽頭癌はEBV検出率が高く，その発生頻度は中国南部およびその出身者が在住する東南アジアにおいて高いことが知られている^1）。

　一般にEBVが感染した場合は，そのほとんどが持続感染（latent infection）しているが，EBV蛋白の発現パターンによって大きく3つの感染様式に分類される。Type Iは6種の核蛋白（EBVnuclear antigen：EBNA）のうちEBNA1，および2種のnon-polyadenylating RNA （EBV en-coded small RNA：EBER）を発現するタイプで，Burkittリンパ腫などで認められる。Type IIはEBNA1，3種の膜蛋白（1atent membraneprotein：LMP），EBERを発現するタイプで，上咽頭癌^2,3）やHodgkin病などで認められる。TypeIIIは6種全てのEBNAと3種全てのLMP，EBERといった持続感染関連遺伝子全てを発現しており，日和見リンパ腫や伝染性単核球症などで認められる。感染したごく一部の細胞では，ウイルス生成感染（lyticまたはproductive infect-ion）し，その際にウイルス産生を開始するスイッチとしてBamHI Z Epstein-Barr replicationactivator（ZEBRA）が発現する。

We investigated expression of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) encoded genes and potentially oncogenic cellular proteins in 38 nasopharyngeal carcinomapatients. 26 subjects were from Sapporo Medical University, and 12 from China Medical University, Shenyang, China. Presence of EBV was determined by in situ hybridization of EBER1. ZEBRA, LMP1, p53, Bcl-2, and c-Myc expressions which were deter-mined by immunohistochemical staining. Positive rates were as follows;EBER1 (87%), ZEBRA (11%), LMP1 (42%), Bc1-2 (63%), p53 (68%), and c-Myc (42%). We compared the positive rate in Sapporo cases with those in Shenyang cases, and discussed about the relationship between the expres-sion of these EBV-encoded genes and cellular pro-teins.
