　Pigment epithelium-derived factor （色素上皮由来因子：PEDF）は，網膜色素上皮細胞から産生される蛋白で，神経栄養作用と，強力な眼内血管新生抑制作用があるとされる。硝子体手術を行った23眼で，硝子体内PEDF濃度をELISA （enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay）で測定した。内訳は，増殖型糖尿病網膜症8眼，裂孔原性網膜剥離7眼，特発性黄斑円孔4眼，その他である。PEDF濃度は，増殖型糖尿病網膜症で0.37±0.13μg／ml，裂孔原性網膜剥離で3.53±0.85μg／mlであった。特発性黄斑円孔では1.76±0.46μg／mlであり，正常値に近かった。増殖型糖尿病網膜症で硝子体PEDFが低濃度であることは，これによる眼内血管新生抑制効果が低いことを示すと思われた。裂孔原性網膜剥離で高値であることは，剥離網膜の神経細胞保護に作用している可能性があると推定された。

Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), a serpin-like protein, is claimed to be a neurotropic factor and a potent inhibitor of intraocular angiogenesis. We quantitated the intravitreal level of PEDF in 23 eyes that received vitreous surgery using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) . The series comprised proliferative diabetic retinopathy 8 eyes, rhegmatogenous retinal detachment 7 eyes, idiopathic macular hole 4 eyes and others. The concentration of PEDF averaged 0.37±0.13 μg/ml in diabetic retinopathy, 3.53±0.85, μg/ml in retinal detachment and 1.76±0.46 μg/ml in macular hole. Its value in macular hole was similar to the normal level. Its lower levels in proliferative diabetic retinopathy seemed to show decreased inhibitory effect for intraocular angiogenesis. Its increased levels in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment seemed to show a neuroprotective role for the detached retina.
