　糖尿病黄斑浮腓21例28眼に対して硝子体手術を行い，術前後での毛細血管瘤数を検索した。男性17眼，女性11眼で，年齢は40歳から67歳，平均60歳であった。黄斑浮腫は術後全例で消失し，消失するまでの期間は1〜18か月，平均4.6か月であった。中心窩から3乳頭径内の毛細血管瘤数を蛍光眼底写真上で計測した結果その平均数は術前72±40，術後52±33で，有意に減少した（p＝0,001）。毛細血管瘤減少数は黄斑浮腫が消失するまでの期間と有意に相関した。男性より女性，年齢は高いほど毛細血管瘤の減少が顕著であった。毛細血管瘤の減少は，糖尿病黄斑浮腋に対する硝子体手術後の背景網膜症の改善を反映すると解釈した。

We performed vitreous surgery for diabetic macular edema in 28 eyes of 21 patients. We paid particular at-tention to postoperative changes in the number of capillary microaneurysms. The series comprised 17 males and 11 fe-males. Their ages ranged from 40 to 67 years, average 60 years. Macular edema disappeared in all the eyes 1 to 18 months, average 4.6 months, after surgery. We counted the number of microaneurysms within 3 disc diameters from the fovea on fluorescein angiogram. It averaged 72±40 before surgery and 52±33 after surgery. The difference was significant (p＜0.001). There was a positive correlation between the reduction in the number of microaneurysms and the postoperative duration of macular edema. Reduction in the number of microaneurysms was more pronounced in fe-males than in males and in patients more advanced in age. The observed reduction in the number of microaneurysms appeared to he the result of improved background retinopathy consequent to vitreous surgery.
