　Persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous，　persistence and hyperplasia of primary vit-reous第1次硝子体遺残過増症は従来persistenttunica vasculosa lentis水晶体血管膜遺残或はpersistent posterior fetal fibrovascular sheath of the lens後水晶体胎生線維血管鞘遺残等の名称で呼ばれていたもので，1942年頃から後水晶体増殖症が問題となるにつれて屡々これと混同されて来たが，1949年Reese教授がこの2つは全く異つた疾患であることを明かにし，本症をその発生成因よりpersistence and hyperplasiaof primary vitreous （以下PHV略す）と命名し，更に1955年49眼について詳細な研究を発表して以来一般にこの名称が用いられるようになつた。最近はManschot （1958）が本症の14眼について報告している。

　硝子体の発育をみると胎生6週間頃迄に粗大原線維からなるprimary vitreous第1次硝子体が表面性外胚葉と神経性外胚葉から生じ，これに中胚葉性の硝子体動脈が侵入し微細な毛網血管網Vasa hyaloidea propriaを形成する。

The case presented is that of a 6-month-old boy who was born at term. The mother noticed a small eye and a white reflex in the pupillary area of his right eye wheu he was 3 months old. Pseudoglioma was suspected and a ectopic pupil developed in the following two months. On hand-slit-lump examination the extremely shallow anterior chamber, the equator of the swollen lens, the elongated ciliary processes and the opaque tissue with vascularizatiou just behind the lens were noted.
