　高血圧症の問題について欧米医学と日本医学との間に，昔からかなり見解のくいちがうところがあり，眼底像の問題については，特にこの傾向がつよくみられる。

　どのような見解のもとに眼底像の検査が行われるにせよ，本症における眼底所見の判読と表現とは，最も基礎的な重要性をもつ問題であろう。

Although the causes of the diffuse arteriolar diseases with hypertension are still obscure, there is considerable agreement that the mechanism of the essential hypertension is an increase in peripheral resistence to the blood flow which results from generalized constri-ction of the arteriolar systems throughout the body, and that the ophthalmoscopic findings seen in the ocular fundus in hypertension are devided into the hypertensive and sclerotic changes. The author discussed on the gradings and details of these changes, and attempted to list them in a table.
