　外眼筋の解剖学的検索は，古くからVolkmann（1869），Fuchs （1884），Weiss （1897），Merkel（1910），Salzmann （1912），Wolff （1933），等の諸氏により，本邦にては足立文太郞氏（1899），越智貞見氏（1917）によりなされ，最近はFink氏（1951）の斜筋に関する研究がみられる。尚，生弁氏は，日本眼科全書第11巻，眼筋篇（1953）に於いて，外眼筋の解剖学的事項を総括的に記載した。

　私は，外眼筋の眼球に於ける附着状況に就いて再検討を加え，特に今迄に観察不充分な斜筋の附着状況に検討を加えてみた。

The author observed insertions of Musculi oculi externi especially of Musculi obliqui of 120 eyes of 60 corps. 4 Musculi recti were almost same with the former reports in the distance from the inseetion to the margin of the cornea, in the length of Portio tendinosa and in the distance from the end of insertion of a muscle to that of another. The authors obviously recognized Portio tendinosa in 8.3% of M.obliquus inferio, and mixture of Portio muscularis with P. tendinosa in 30% of it. Inserting condition of M. obliquus superior had a remarkable personal differenciation, especially the insertion showed polymorphism.
