A Device for Treatment of Pseudomyopia while Viewing the Television

緒言

　近視の治療に関する業績は，新しい治療薬や治療法の開発，治験験告などすでに数多くの積み重ねが行なわれてきた。これら治療法の内容もきわめて多岐にわたり，全身的な薬物療法，局所的薬物療法，理学的治療法，訓練療法や装用眼鏡に関する工夫，手術など多面的なアプローチがみられる。

　しかしながら，過去数十年にわたるこのような近視治療の発展にもかかわらず，近年の学童の近視罹患率の騰勢は変わることなく，少なくとも統計上では近視治療の困難な状況が示され，あたかもこの点において無力であつたかのごとき観がある。眼鏡は体育に不利で，破損による危険もあり，装用せねば見えぬための事故もある。近視の治療は，近視が発生，進行する時期であるところの学童期における治療と，近視としての症状が固定する25歳すぎの，主として手術を主体とした治療とに大別できるが，いずれの時期においての治療もいまだ満足すべき成果が得られていない。

A new device is described with which treat-ment for pseudomyopia can be conducted at home while the patient looks at the television. The device is shaped like a pair of binoculars and incorporates a self-driven mechanism for relaxation of accommodation synchronized with relaxation of convergence. While the patient is instructed to look at a 18-inch television screen at the distance of 3 meters, the relaxa-tion of accommodation/convergence gradually proceeds for 8 seconds and is repeated after the recyling time of 2 seconds. A single treat-ment is conducted for 20 minutes.
