　若し眼底を見る方法がまだ発見されていなかつたらERGはもつと大事にされたでしようにねと私に言つた人がある。確かに眼科では網膜を検眼鏡で直視出来る為に，ERGがなくても，眼底疾患の診断に困る事は滅多にない。

　それでも現実にERGは眼科臨床検査の一つの大きな部門として成長しつつある。それはやはりERGが網膜機能について眼底検査では得られない特異な情報を我々に提供してくれるからに他ならない。

Topics about electroretinography is presen-ted to serve as introduction for ophthalmolo-gists not specialized in this field. The author advises for installing the equipment to fol-low the specifications set by the ISCERG 1961. The author is against the wide-held assumption to use ERG as indicator for the operative prognosis in retinal detachment, as abnormal ERG is only indicative of the ex-tent of the detached area and not of the se-verity or nature of detachment.
