　論文の書き出しというものは，何度書いてもむずかしいものだ．

　最近読んだウィリアム・ライターの『神話と文学』に，ロブグリエ（1972）の言葉が引用してある．“いずれにせよ，今この瞬間に私が生きている社会は神話の社会である．私を取り巻く要素はすべて神話的要素である．”という言である．

　We have studied the question whether the gastric folds now present would always remain as such, although it is certain that the behavior of the mucosal folds changes according to the distention or contraction of the gastric wall. We have gone into the possibility of the reproduction and permanency of the gastric rugae and assumed that they would appear in the same place and manner after they are distended.

　Next, we have followed up the dynamic changes of the folds in accordance with the varying amount of air insufilated into the stomach.

　For the endoscopic diagnosis of the giant rugae we would like to propose that they should be defined as those that could not be ironed out even when the stomach is inflated with more than 1,700 ml of air at an intragastric pressure of 15 mmHg.

　Practically speaking, giant rugae, at present in: 1 state of confusion regarding its diagnostic criteria, should be regarded as such when the folds of the corpus on the greater curvature side do not distentl even after air is introduced into the stomach as much as the patient can endure. For the time being, such a definition could be a yardstick for the diagnosis of giant rugae.
