Although plastic surgeons throughout Japan are required to register their surgery cases in the National Clinical Database (NCD), doing so is time-consuming and does not contribute to the improvement of surgical techniques. A shorter registration-process time and less effort are thus desired.

I have built a semi-automated registration system for the NCD that uses Microsoft Excel and a Power Automate Desktop. With the collaborative use of these two applications, surgery records can be directly, quickly, and automatically registered on the NCDʼs web site.

Before this new system was available, I had spent ~6 hours for the registration of 100 surgical case records. I usually register ~400–500 such records every year, and by using the new semi-automated system a surgeon could therefore save >24 hours a year at this task.

I am sure that this automated registration system will help reduce the clerical/registration workload of all plastic surgeons, freeing up more time for surgery and surgery-related matters.
