アミロイドPETイメージングが実用化して10数年経ち，認知症臨床研究や治療薬開発において欠くことのできない重要な役割を担うとともに，診療の中でも用いられようとしている^1）2）。タウPETイメージングも臨床的に実用的な診断薬が複数登場し研究が加速している。アミロイドPETイメージングに加えて，なぜタウPETイメージングが必要であり，さらなる開発が嘱望されているのか，タウPETイメージングの意義を考察しつつ概説する。

Tau PET imaging is a diagnostic neuroimaging technique that enable us to visualize tau pathology or neurofibrillary tangles（NFTs）of Alzheimer’s disease and other tauopathies in living human brain. Tau pathology is strongly correlated with cognitive impairment in AD and clinical phenotypes of Alzheimer’s disease and other tauopathies. Therefore, the observation of tau pathologies by PET plays a key role in understanding the pathophysiology and developing therapeutic interventions in AD and other tauopathies.
