【Purpose】 The number of cases of child abuse consultation has recently increased in Japan. One of the well-known risk factors for physical and emotional neglect is maternal postpartum depression. We have modified an Australian parenting support program (empathy session) for pregnant couples that is aimed at preventing maternal postpartum depression in order to adapt it to the Japanese health services context. In this study, the Japanese version of the program was further modified for various target groups and then implemented in childcare support training and parent preparation classes. By analyzing the free-response content of the participants' comments, we identified the characteristics of the target groups' evaluations of the program and considered ways to continue implementation of the program at various sites.

【Methods】 The Japanese version of the empathy session was delivered to 507 participants: 78 childcare support workers, 95 community volunteers (excluding medical professionals) engaged in baby home visits, 41 pregnant couples, 252 nursing university students. We conducted a text-mining analysis of free responses to an open-ended question on a questionnaire.

【Results】 Despite some differences in response rate to the open-ended question and the evaluation of time allocation among the participating groups, ratings of most evaluation items were generally favorable. The total number of words analyzed in the text-mining was 475, and the most frequently used words were "couple," "dad," "mom," and "myself." Characteristic words by target group were "era" and "visit" for the childcare support workers, "how to" and "can talk" for pregnant couples, and "future" and "really" for nursing university students.

【Conclusions】 The evaluation of the program's content was high in all target groups, and each group had its own unique opinions. Modification and implementation of this program to suit many target groups will lead to consistent community-wide childcare support.
