【Abstract】

The purpose of this study was to describe, through narrative approach interviews family strengths living with children suffering from resistant epilepsy.

Four mothers participated in this research, and their families exhibited various types of family strengths. All mothers had the experience of using their family strengths in dealing with the stress of the life events concerning their children. For example, they had the ability to negotiate well with their medical and/or welfare service staff and the ability to observe changes in the symptoms on their children. However, communication between the parents was not sufficient, especially with regard to understanding the disability of their child. On the other hand, it was judged that "bonding" of the family function was enmeshed about in 2 families. I believe, however that their strong bonding was result of stress coping for life events, so is not necessarily a functional disorder of the family in those cases.
