The NANDA nursing diagnosis term“disturbed thought process”belongs to the NANDA-I Taxonomy II, domain 5“Perception/Cognition”, class 4“Cognition”, diagnostic concept of“Thought Process”. A“thought process (thinking)”is defined by the International Council of Nurses as“an innate process characterized by its division, organization and classification of thoughts. It is involved to the process of thinking logically and showing one's thoughts through speech. It is also related to goal-oriented concept formation and to changes in consciousness”. This diagnosis has been reported to be widely used in clinical psychiatric nursing in Japan and in Europe. However, because of the absence of concept analysis, it is about to be removed from the NANDA-I classification. Through a review of the literature, our research examines the necessity of this concept in nowadays psychiatric nursing.
